Introducing Adelaide Hills Council
Adelaide Hills Council (AHC) is a local government authority in South Australia committed to environmental sustainability and carbon reduction.
The Council has installed solar PV systems across multiple sites as part of its Corporate Carbon Management Plan and Energy Reduction Program. These systems support both operational cost savings and community leadership in renewable energy adoption.
Our work, together
As an early adopter of solar PV, AHC found that many of their solar systems were underperforming.
Tandem Energy worked with AHC to ensure their investment in renewable energy provided the maximum benefit in both emissions reduction and financial return.
We helped to
- Undertake solar feasibility studies on key Council sites to determine optimum solar PV size and battery storage opportunities
- Integrate Solar Analytics across all Council solar sites
- Identify and rectify maintenance requirements for the existing solar PV systems
- Reset and review inverter portal access for legacy systems
- Support renewable energy procurement processes including writing tender documentation, attending site walkthroughs and tender selection processes
- Develop a custom multi-page dashboard display for Council public buildings
- Create SOPs for all solar equipment
- Deliver training sessions for infrastructure and sustainability teams
- Identify energy efficiency opportunities across sites based on electricity consumption patterns
- Conduct staff training to enable internal fault detection and response
- Identify high overnight loads and passive design improvements at specific sites.
What we achieved
This work has seen AHC maximise its return on solar investments while progressing towards sustainability goals.
The Council now has:
- Reduction in grid energy consumption through improved solar utilisation
- Enhanced system uptime and fault response
- A unified monitoring platform across all solar sites for improved monitoring and maintenance
- Improved staff capacity to manage solar assets internally as result of training programs and system SOPs for solar system operation
- A public dashboard display has helped enhance Council’s sustainability credentials and improve community understanding of solar PV.
